Loose Powder or Pressed? - Makeup and Beauty Blog

  • May 30th, 2009 at 6:00 pm

I ever causeless loose was sheer and pressed was heavier! Silly me.

    • May 30th, 2009 at eight:49 pm

      Hi Jenna,

You can however make loose look more sheer — the tools you employ to apply too make a diff.

But in general for really heavy coverage I remember loose is meliorate crusade you lot can really pack it on.

How'due south your weekend been? Are you ready for your test?

  • May 30th, 2009 at half-dozen:02 pm

I accept to agree with Jenna — actually, I thought it was the other way around . . . .? How did I go this wrong all these years?

    • May 30th, 2009 at 8:l pm

      Hi Brandi,

I used to retrieve that the only unequal was that loose powder was the powder you kept at habitation and that pressed was the portable one. But yah, there's a diff. I've read it in a few books (Bobbi Brown'south is ane of the more recent ones)…

  • May 30th, 2009 at six:05 pm

Same here, Jenna! I like loose pulverisation better anyway because I remember it looks more natural (not completely matte)…plus information technology's easier for me to find a shade in loose powder, as well.

    • May 30th, 2009 at viii:57 pm

      Hello CC,

Practise y'all have a favorite loose powder?

  • May 30th, 2009 at 6:22 pm

Thanks, Karen. I idea the divergence was "mess or no mess" lmao. I employ Makeup Forever HD powder which is loose. I don't employ information technology everyday though because I take dry skin and the MUFE HD foundation makes me await dewy (partly because of how I apply it) and that'south what I like. The powder doesn't make me expect chalky, it's awesome, simply I don't always want to look matte.

    • May 30th, 2009 at viii:58 pm

      Hi Shontay,

I don't ever want to look matte, either. In the summer I tend to do more than dewey looks.

How do you apply your MUFE Hard disk drive foundation to make it expect dewey? Do you wet your brush before application?

      • May 22nd, 2012 at ten:nineteen am

I apply MUFE's HD Foundation in 125…best foundation e'er!!! Anyways, I used to employ a foundation castor by Lancome, which worked well, but I decided to try a cheaper version of the Beauty Blender past Soho London (from Walgreens for $5.99 vs the BB that costs well-nigh $thirty). I wet the blender and squeeze out the excess water, then employ that to apply my foundation, and it gives the best look ever. Information technology'southward a much more than airbrushed, flawless, and even await. Everyday, either immediately afterward or later on at nighttime before bed, I quickly wash my blender with a gentle face cleanser, which takes but a infinitesimal or ii. Past far my favorite method of application!!

      Hi Christina,

LOL! I was too lazy to put in my contacts. 🙂

  • May 30th, 2009 at 6:41 pm

Cheers! That'south helpful (I'm giving information technology a "thumbs up") . . . does the same information employ for "translucent" powders? I just picked upward a loose translucent Clinique powder at the CCO on Friday because the loose and pressed translucent Carmindy for Sally Hansen I take makes me expect a fiddling ghostly at present that I've got the tiniest bit of summer color! I Honey the Clinique powder, information technology's very finely milled, but the "instructions packet" in the box are all in Japanese. At least information technology's powder, and I know how to employ it 🙂

    • May 30th, 2009 at 9:09 pm

      Hi Hyzenthlay,

Part of the equation has to exercise with what tools y'all utilise to apply the pulverization — if yous are applying translucent loose powder with a puff you'll get more pulverisation on your skin and thus a heavier powdered look. Since it's translucent, though, heavier doesn't necessarily mean y'all'll become more coverage. If you lot want full coverage a colored loose pulverization would be a better bet.

I go on both colored translucent loose powders in my stash. I'll use translucent for more casual looks and colored for heavier looks (ie, photography and video).

I prefer pressed powder for my daughter's sake. Because no affair how careful I am, I know there's bound to exist powder particles floating around in the air after using loose pulverisation, and I don't like the idea of my babe inhaling it.

    Estimate that's just me! 🙂

      Hi Dimpy,

I really like Sonia Kashuk's. Practice you live almost a Target?

  • May 30th, 2009 at 10:18 pm

I haven't used loose pulverization in a while – I somehow managed to lose mine (Cover Daughter translucent medium lite) somewhere probably while traveling, but I'm looking for a new one. I'm thinking near Bobbi Brownish because her shades don't make me look too white or pink. 🙂 Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • May 30th, 2009 at 10:45 pm

Similar anybody said, I WOULD wait loose to be sheer because it's "loose" but I do find that pressed is more than sheer considering the brush only picks the stuff on the top. Could y'all do a post about recommendations? 😀

Hullo, Karen. I spray my face with Sephora flash radiance spray. I loooove that stuff. I'thousand too agape to use mac fix+ because so many of their face products intermission me out. Wink radiance is like taking a dip in a pool in the middle of baronial. Just awesome and I really think it helps with foundation application.

I love when you do videos. I learn a lot & your delivery is always easy to remember. Please do more than!!! Plus your peel looks fab. And then jealous of the tan. I find it hard to believe yous accept acne prone peel at times. Yous always look flawless 🙂

    Hi Karen

Both both! Loose in the morning and pressed to take out with me 🙂

  • May 31st, 2009 at viii:32 am

My weekend has been adept, haven't done too much, which is always nice. I will do well on my exam equally long as I manage not to freak out… which would be an impressive feat.

  • May 31st, 2009 at x:42 am

Hey Karen welcome back. I simply want to say that you are looking very Bronze Goddess after your trip – cute equally always!
I still love my MUFE Hd loose (and have seriously loved NARS, LM and Aucoin powders in the by and so estimate I'm a loose woman lol).

Throughout the 24-hour interval, blot papers keep the oil toned downward and I will add more loose powder for evening if nosotros are going out.

  • May 31st, 2009 at 11:xv am

    Howdy Karen!

I must say, y'all look great in your glasses!
I never thought about the existent difference between loose and compact pulverisation but I approximate it makes sense. I'm actually tempted to just use meaty powder instead of loose because I hate the messiness of loose powder – information technology gets EVERYWHERE, especially when the tub has been knocked about.

I used to apply loose powder with a fluffy brush and boy, it was sheer! Now I use a velour pouf and information technology'south a lot better. Besides, pressed powder is easier to travel or toss in a bag. I would not chance my bag with a jar of loose pulverisation, unless it's within a tighly zipped zip-lock handbag.

lol, i really always thought loose powder was sheer, and pressed more opaque, even though ive never actually used a loose powder, well well well i guess i'thousand gonna accept to go try some out now. thank u!!

  • May 31st, 2009 at 11:27 pm

Okay, first of all, your glasses are adorable! You await fantastic in them.

Also, similar everyone else, I thought the difference was that pressed was less of a hurting in the ass, haha.

Would you like to counterbalance in on the translucent vs. colored pulverization battle? I use translucent, but that'south simply considering I'g too lazy to switch powders with the season! I suppose I could be convinced to if there were a practiced reason to do and so…

    • June 1st, 2009 at 7:57 am

      Hullo L,

I think translucent is fine for every day wear if you lot like it, but if yous programme on taking pics then go for a colored powder. Sometimes translucent powders tin create a white cast when the flash goes off.

  • June 1st, 2009 at 8:00 am

Ah! I concur with the others. I thought it was totally the contrary way. Thanks Karen for setting me directly. Dearest you tan btw! You look very glowy.

Is there a difference with foundation or is it merely a preference? Like what'south the divergence with creme, liquid, and powder?

  • June 22nd, 2009 at seven:29 pm

thank you..i dear ur pare colour 🙂 very beautiful and natural

i need ur aid in this : ok what about if u have acne-prone pare .. what will u get for ?? i hateful for daily use ..i don't want to end up with more than problems with my skin 🙁 i desire something to cover my flaws and spots and at the same fourth dimension to have natural look especially when i'thousand out (day light)

  • January 1st, 2011 at 1:47 pm

Should y'all utilize any kind of pulverization if you lot have dry out skin? I take combination skin during summer, but now that it'south winter information technology'due south (Obviously) drier. I don't know what to apply or if I should be using anything at all.

  • January 2nd, 2012 at 11:30 pm

Hullo Karen!… I tend to break out all the fourth dimension. I've tried using dozens of peel products and it seems that compact powders seem to beal it fifty-fifty more. Then I tried settling with loose pulverisation. The thing is, I'chiliad not really sure which products are safe and hypoallergenic enough for my skin.I promise yous could recommend something that would suite my skin blazon. All the best!

  • February 13th, 2013 at 5:09 pm

    Hullo Karen,

    How is translucent powder unlike?

I use liquid foundation and apply the compact to set it. I cease up with 'cake face up'. Help!

  • August 2nd, 2022 at 5:14 am

If I turn my loose powder to a pressed pulverisation (using booze stuff), will the original coverage properties of the loose pulverisation modify?

  • April 4th, 2022 at 4:49 am

    Hi Karen,

I realized in past posts by you our skintone is the aforementioned (in the warmer months/and I'm half Filipina). I take been using Make Up Forever Pro Powder simply wanted to endeavour Bobbi Brown'due south Sheer Stop Pressed Powder (I have combination/oily skin). I was curious if you have ever used it and if exercise, what shade?

    Thanks!
